What I found most remarkable about this area was that at this time of year the landscapes are almost inverted version of those of my native Scotland. In Scotland at this time of year the only remaining snow and ice is on the summits of the mountains, so the glens are green and the mountains are white. Here the thick ice on the water holds onto the cold of winter long after it has melted from the mountains. So the landscapes have white glens and green mountains.
