The Falkirk Wheel is a brilliant bit of engineering. It once took 11 locks to raise canal boats from the level of the Forth and Clyde Canal to the level of the Union Canal. Going through these locks would take hours, and now only takes a few minutes. The two buckets on the wheel are perfectly in balance, so the amount of power consumed is tiny. | NEXT > | |||||||||
