The approach to Ft August from the north brings you into the bottom of the flight of locks. It also brings you to the more mountainous south section of the Great Glen. The mountains visible behind the Abbey are those around the Corrieyairack Pass are by no means the biggest, yet are carrying a big burden of snow even in mid April.
